Light Structures and Structural Glass
Presenter: Michael Stein, P.E.

About the Speaker:
Michael Stein, P.E. founded the branch office of Schlaich Bergermann and Partner in New York City in 2004 and currently leads the U.S. operations as Managing Director. In his 16+ years with Schlaich Bergermann and Partner, he has led worldwide projects in different fields of demanding structural engineering like lightweight cable roofs, transparent glass facades, moveable structures and innovative bridges.
Michael is currently busy with the ongoing construction of the cable suspended roof over the B.C. Place Olympic Stadium in Vancouver, which includes an 80,000 sf retractable membrane cushion in the center and a 100,000sf ETFE façade, the final design for the Transbay Terminal in San Francisco with Pelli Clarke Pelli and the design for the Freedom Tower Antenna at Ground Zero, a 450ft structure using Kevlar Cables and RFP Sandwich Panels as cladding material.  Michael Stein is also the Bedford Visiting Professor at the Schools of Architecture and Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. In his position he teaches interdisciplinary courses for Architects and Engineers targeting the improvement of their cooperation in their future professional careers.
